WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO CROSS THE CANADA / USA BORDER?
One must have photo identification and your original birth certificate and / or a passport. If anyone has any criminal offences (i.e. impaired driving) they will need to tell the Canadian Customs since entry to Canada may be denied. If one does have a criminal record of any kind, please contact the Customs before your trip to make sure that you will be allowed to enter Canada. WHAT FORM OF GUN PERMIT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO BRING A HUNTING RIFLE OR OTHER FIREARM ACROSS THE BORDER AND HOW DO I OBTAIN ONE?
Federal firearms regulations require hunters who want to bring non-restricted firearms into Canada to declare their firearms at point of entry. A fee is required ($25.00) to complete this procedure, this confirmed declaration is valid for up to 60 days. Firearms declaration forms are available from custom offices, or the Canadian Firearms Centre information line at 1-800-731-4000. The gun permit is a must inorder to cross the border with their non-restricted firearms. HOW DO I OBTAIN A NON-RESIDENT HUNTING LICENSE IF I AM NOT A RESIDENT OF ONTARIO?
Non-residents of Ontario must present one of the following to obtain a non-resident licence to hunt in Ontario:
- An Ontario non-resident's hunting licence issued to you after January 1, 1968
- A hunting licence issued to you by a competent authority in any jurisdiction as a resident of that jurisdiction after January 1, 1968
- An Ontario Hunter Education Examination Report or Certificate issued to you after January 1, 1968
- An Ontario Hunting Licence Verification Certificate showing that you were issued an Ontario licence to hunt, or passed the Hunting Licence Examination
- A certificate, issued to you after January 1, 1968, by a competent authority in any jurisdiction, giving you permission to purchase a resident's hunting licence in that jurisdiction.
- A non-resident who wishes to hunt in Ontario must be 16 years of age or older.
- A non-resident deer licence (antlered deer only) costs $172.94 plus GST. (Canadian Dollars)
WHAT FORM OF PERMIT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO BRING MY WHITETAIL DEER BACK ACROSS THE BORDER?
One must purchase a non-resident export permit which is $35.00 Canadian in order to bring your whitetail deer across to the US. The export permits are available in Fort Frances and Rainy River.
